Standards & Practices for this Wiki
- The criteria for inclusion is just that a philosophy (of history and philosophy of science) Ph.D. program have at least one full-time faculty member who self-identifies as a philosopher of biology.[1]
- The standard of evidence required to make the list is a faculty (or personal) web page of some kind or that lists philosophy of biology as an AOS.
- Philosophers who have made significant contributions to the philosophy of biology but who do not list phil bio as a current AOS/AOC are usually not listed.[2] However, sometimes philosophers' short web bios do not list philosophy of biology as an AOS, though their expanded bios or personal web pages do.[3]
- Bio ethics, environmental ethics, philosophy of neuroscience/cognitive science, and philosophy of medicine—in and of themselves—are not counted as philosophy of biology, though philosophers of biology with those interests are listed.
- This is a wiki, so anyone can edit it.

Notes
- ↑ Free-standing Science & Technology Studies (or Science Studies) departments with strengths in philosophy of biology are not listed. The rationale for this is that this wiki exists primarily to help prospective Ph.D. students interested in philosophy of biology get the lay of the land by seeing who works where. The assumption is that these people want to enroll in philosophy programs or HPS programs, not STS programs.
- ↑ Peter Machamer and James Woodward at the University of Pittsburgh Department of History and Philosophy of Science are two examples.
- ↑ John Beatty at the University of British Columbia is an example.
- ↑ Though he does not list philosophy of biology as a current AOS, Kitcher writes on his faculty profile page--accessed 2014-11-18--that he is willing to work with philosophy of biology graduate students.
